Su Ta Gar is a heavy metal band formed in 1987 in the city of Eibar. In Spanish, «Su ta Gar» could be literally translated as «fire and flames», but it is actually a Basque locution with more than one meaning. The most important meaning is similar to other locutions such as «Jo ta Ke» (one of their best known songs) or «buru-belarri», which are used in Basque as equivalent to «Dale duro», «Con ahínco» or «Sin descanso». They suggest a great intensity in the action and a prolongation in time, in spite of all resistance or difficulty.
Su ta Gar first got together at the end of 1987. The first line-up consisted of Aitor Gorosabel (vocals and lead guitar), Xabi Bastida (rhythm guitar), Asier Osoro (bass and backing vocals) and Borxa Arrillaga (drums).
In 1995, with all the material ready to record their new album, Borxa Arrillaga suffers an accident that leaves him in a wheelchair,[1] forcing the band to go on, this time with the participation of his brother, Galder Arrillaga. The new album is called Sentimenak Jarraituz (Following the feelings), and is awarded in several festivals. Aitor’s voice begins to evolve at this point to lower and huskier tones, a change that develops little by little until it is clearly evident in 1999.
